TESU vs Excelsior vs Charter Oak vs WGU: the credit-by-exam schools compared

Charter Oak is Connecticut's public online college. It accepts CLEP and DSST credits and offers lower in-state-style tuition to a wider pool. It tends to be smaller and more hands-on than the other three. Good option for finishers who want a public-college feel without the in-person commute.

Western Governors University (WGU)

WGU is different. It uses competency-based education rather than traditional credit hours. You pay a flat tuition per six-month term and move as fast as you can prove mastery. WGU accepts some transfer credit but is less exam-credit-friendly than the other three. Best for finishers who want to accelerate through assessments rather than exams.
